COGEP CONCLUDES TWO CONTRACTS IN AFRICA
EXPLORATION AND MINING COMPANY SEMAFO CHOOSES QUEBECOIS SOFTWARE COMPANY TO MAINTAIN ALL STRATEGIC ASSETS OF 2 MINES IN WESTERN AFRICA
EXPLORATION AND MINING COMPANY SEMAFO CHOOSES QUEBECOIS SOFTWARE COMPANY TO MAINTAIN ALL STRATEGIC ASSETS OF 2 MINES IN WESTERN AFRICA
Québec City, July 5th 2011 – COGEP announced that mining company SEMAFO selected Guide Ti to manage the maintenance of its mobile equipment, mill and infrastructure at its Mana gold mine in Burkina Faso and it Samira Hill mine in Niger. The software is used to manage equipment maintenance and the entire process involving replacement part procurement.
For the president and CEO of COGEP, Michel Fournier, these two new mandates form part of the export and market penetration strategy implemented in 2010: “We’re happy that SEMAFO chose our maintenance and procurement management solution; this confirms once again that our solution is perfectly adapted to the mining sector,” explained the Quebecois entrepreneur.
While COGEP has been a key player in the mining industry for more than 15 years, these two mandates are the most recent successes resulting from COGEP’s marketing efforts in North America and internationally.
Measured, insightful decision
SEMAFO is a Canadian mining company that is carrying out gold exploration and production activities in Western Africa. SEMAFO chose Guide Ti for a number of reasons. Martin Poirier, Equipment Director (HME) at SEMAFO, explained that the software’s flexibility and ease of use were major factors in the final decision. Guide Ti’s compatibility with Microsoft Dynamics GP (already in use in the two mines) was also a key point in the company’s analysis. In addition, COGEP’s presence in more than twenty mining companies in North America is proof of its expertise in this sector. Poirier added that local users easily adapted to the new software solution: “Thanks to Guide Ti’s simplicity, our workers were able to start using it quickly”.
Technological challenges of remote sites
Guide Ti provides superior parts inventory management in spite of the distances that separate the Canadian head office and mines located in Africa. To enable remote sites to have instantaneous response times and ensure that access to the software is maintained even when there are interruptions in communication between the mines and head office, COGEP succeeded in adapting Guide Ti to Microsoft’s database replication technology. In this way, workers at a remote site can work on a server located on site while workers at the head office located on a different continent can work simultaneously with the same data via the server located there.
On the other hand, replication permits buyers at head office to work on purchase orders created by users at remote sites and even enables employees at head office and remote sites to share tasks related to the same purchase order.
Each site typically has its own database and it is COGEP’s replication implementation that allows database synchronization and renders all the information available as if the two sites were accessing a single database
